Leadership That Gets Results
Good communities don't drift into excellence on their own. They get there through clarity, discipline, and sound judgment. Ryan O'Neill brings the experience and vision Grand Island needs.
Ryan O’Neill is a Grand Island native and Northwest High School graduate whose family’s roots in Hall County date back to the mid 1800s. For generations, his family has served Hall County and Grand Island through elected office, local boards, business, healthcare, public safety, education, and community volunteer work.
Ryan continued that tradition of service when he was elected to the Hall County Airport Authority Board in 2018 and the Grand Island City Council in 2024, where he currently serves as Council President. He has provided fiscal oversight, helped maintain balanced budgets, and guided important public projects with practical leadership and responsible decision making.
Professionally, Ryan is an IT Manager at Amur Equipment Finance with more than 20 years of management experience across finance, media, manufacturing, and technology. His education includes Central Community College and Bellevue University, giving him a strong foundation in leadership, communication, organization, and fiscal responsibility.
Ryan is a member of 3rd City Sertoma, serves on the Grand Island Saddle Club board, and is involved with the Nebraska Admirals Association. Ryan brings common sense, experience, and a steady focus on serving Grand Island.
Ryan O'Neill hasn't just talked about serving Grand Island, he's been doing it. From the private sector to elected public office, his career is defined by taking on responsibility and delivering results.
Ryan's leadership philosophy is straightforward: identify what could go wrong, build the structures to prevent it, and communicate clearly every step of the way.
Before taking action, Ryan asks what could cause failure. By identifying the risks and obstacles upfront, he ensures that plans are built on solid ground, not optimism alone. This discipline prevents costly mistakes before they happen.
Effective leadership requires that everyone understands what matters and why. Ryan prioritizes clear, consistent communication with residents, staff, and fellow officials so that the right priorities stay in focus and nothing important gets lost.
Vision without structure is just intention. Ryan brings the operational discipline from his private sector career to public service of building systems and accountability frameworks that turn goals into outcomes Grand Island residents can see and feel.
These are my specific, achievable goals that will make a tangible difference in the daily lives of Grand Island residents.
Grand Island deserves a vibrant, signature destination that reflects the community's ambitions. Ryan is committed to developing the Good Life District. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to use incentive funds from the State of Nebraska to build an competetive athletic complex and aquatic center which will draw more visitors into Grand Island and help support our local businesses. These buildings will also support needs of Grand Island residents and quality of life for future generations.
Population growth doesn't happen by accident, it's the result of deliberate investment in quality of life. Ryan will focus on the amenities, infrastructure, and community culture that make Grand Island attractive to young families, working professionals, and businesses looking to relocate. A growing city means a stronger tax base and better services for everyone already here.
Taxpayers deserve a City Hall that spends their money wisely, communicates transparently, and operates efficiently. Ryan will apply the same management discipline that has defined his private sector career to city government by eliminating waste, improving communication with residents, and ensuring every department is accountable for results. Responsible governance is not a slogan; it is a daily practice.
